The ICS History Archive

ICS celebrated it's 10th anniversary (and the 31st anniversary of its original founding as the Computer Science Special Interest Group in 1976) with a special Quiz Show during the Seattle INFORMS meeting in November 2007. The Quiz Show materials are humorous and informative.

  • This page contains the materials from the ICS 10th Anniversary Celebration and Quiz Show (Nov 5 2007, at the INFORMS Seattle meeting). To run the show I ran the master_ICSQuizShow.ppt file. There are links in this file to the other .htm or .ppt files used for the Jeopardy, Society Feud, and Millionaire segments, as well as the text Jeff Linderoth created for his "Word from our sponsor" ads. I used Firefox for the show.

Of course, having the files we used at the session is not even half the fun of really being there. The live event wouldn't have been the same without the reception sponsored by GAMS Development. The panelists/contestants are what really make or break a session like this, and our panelists made it a memorable time for everybody there. Thanks to Dick Barr, Jerry Brown, Harlan Crowder, Bjarni Kristjansson, Alex Meeraus, Ariela Sofer, Bill Stewart, and John Tomlin for agreeing to be on the panel and also for the material they contributed. Thanks to all those who contributed anecdotes, suggestions, facts, and pictures that were used in the show. Finally, thanks to the Quiz Show Team of John Chinneck, Jeff Linderoth, and Robin Lougee-Heimer. All of them took time out of their busy schedules to organize this event, contribute material, and make suggestions. In addition, Jeff was the perfect pitch-man and scorekeeper, and without John and Robin working their secret plan to have me chair the session I don't think I'd ever have gotten this off the ground. It's been a pleasure to work with them and I look forward to doing so again in the future. But maybe not too soon...
