The Spring Newsletter! Elections! ICS'09 Conference New JoC Editor-in-Chief New Greenberg Service Award
Awarded biannually at the ICS meeting, starting 2009. The award will be a Certificate plus meeting registration fee waiver.
Criteria:
The intent is that this be a "lifetime achievement," given at most once every two years. The nomination must make the case that the candidate achieved multiple results that benefited ICS (or its predecessor organizations, CSTS and CS SIG). Service, alone, is not enough; there must be achievement.
The ICS Chair will appoint a Service Award Committee composed of at least three ICS members. They will be charged with soliciting nominations from ICS members. Each nomination must be accompanied by a letter that presents a case based on the nominee's service. This must also be accompanied by three ICS member endorsements. No ICS member may endorse more than one nominee for the same year.
Frederic Murphy fmurphy@temple.edu has agreed to chair the first HJG Service Award Committee. Thanks Frederic!
The Harvey J. Greenberg Award for Service is given to an individual in recognition of their impact on the INFORMS Computing Society (ICS). The award is named in honor of Harvey J. Greenberg, whose service to the Society exemplifies the spirit of the award. The Award is intended to be a "lifetime achievement" award. It is given at most once every two years. The first award will be presented at the 11th ICS Conference in January 2009. A candidate nominated for the award must satisfy the following criteria:
A nomination must make the case that the candidate achieved multiple results that benefited ICS or its predecessor organizations, CSTS and CS SIG. Service alone is not enough; there must be achievements that have expanded or enhanced ICS activities.
Each nomination must be accompanied by (1) a letter that presents a case based on the nominee's service and (2) by three ICS member endorsements. No ICS member may endorse more than one nominee for the same year.
Send nominations to hjgserviceaward@mail.informs.org. The nominations are due on September 8, 2008. For full award rules and application procedures, see here. The selection-committee members are Fred Murphy, chair and Robin Lougee-Heimer and Dave Woodruff, members.
